they can steal our keys, money, and identity but they can NEVER steal our love!

So this is what happened.
We went to church. Chas took his super nice, super awesome coat inside, hung it up in the Primary kid's coat room, and left our car keys and his iPhone in the pocket. I mean seriously, it's the Primary's coat room. What could happen?! Well, plenty, as we found out.

Someone shady came in, took Chas' coat, used the key fob to locate our car, and steal my purse from the front seat. These guys hit the jackpot because inside my cute, one-of-a-kind homemade purse was my wallet full of my credit/debit cards, social security card (yup, believe it), gift cards (leftovers from Christmas and wedding presents), cash, apartment keys, my flash drive, schedule book, etc. etc. etc.

Of all the things we lost, my identity included, I think we're both most sad about Chas' coat. And my bag (I made it!). And my Gap, Forever21, and Market Street gift cards. Ok, ok. So we're most sad about a lot of things.

Buuuuut there were a few little miracles that happened in the wake of so much loss. I'll tell you about those, too.
We had actually just gotten back from a little weekend trip to my family's cabin. We had brought up our Mac desktop computer so we could watch movies. This computer would have been in the back seat of our car but my parents needed us to bring my family's dog, Archie, back home with us. So while a big, fluffy labradoodle filled our backseat, everything else we brought on our mini cabin-vaca, including a very nice, very expensive computer, was stuffed in the trunk and out of plain sight. Amazingly, the dorks never opened the trunk. Fewf.

It gets better. If the trunk had been opened and if our computer had been taken, along with the flash drive in my purse (which was taken), my whole book would have been gone. (Some of you may not know this but I'm in the process of writing a book.) Credit cards, cash, and lipstick can all be replaced. Months of writing cannot. And actually, just three days earlier, I had randomly decided to start working on the book again (after a three-month hiatus) and transfer the newest draft from my flash drive onto the computer. Once again, fewf

Also, our car wasn't taken. Another miracle. Seriously, what's their problem?

So I guess you could say that Archie saved our computer and my book. We love that pup.

Basically all of today was spent getting new car and apartment keys. Can you believe that a new car key remote clicker costs $150 to replace?! Also, once you've had an iPhone, you'll be basically paralyzed and crippled without one. Just so you know.

Next up for me tomorrow? Getting a new social security card, driver's license, purse, schedule book, work ID badge, and flash drive.
Fun.

We still love each other.

This is so upsetting! And just so we're clear, Who Steals At Church!!???!! I'm so sorry for you, but your strength and ability to appreciate the good in the situation is inspiring. I hope you're able to get all your things replaced, and find a purse that you'll love just as much as your last.

I'm so sorry that happened to you guys! That is absolutely horrible. I don't understand how people can live with themselves when they take other people's property.

I hope you good replacements. Hugs to you. :-)

Oh man, that is awful! Nothing bad should ever happen to nursery teachers, seriously! So glad you can find the good in it, though- love those hidden miracles! Good luck today!

Oh my goodness, that's horrible! I'm so sorry! Thank goodness the thief was too dumb to open the trunk and take the car.

You've got the right attitude, kiddo! Keep your chin up and don't let the bad guys get ya down. Last night after I talked to Chas I called my mom and she and I both said that you guys are awesome and are going to come out of this on-top.

On a side note, I am so glad that your car was not stolen - that is such a nightmare to deal with AND that your house wasn't busted into. That is also awful, awful, awful.

This is horrible!! So it probably was someone in your ward!? And they probably knew you guys cause they took his jacket?? I dunno, thats just sickening! I am sorry! I hope it all works out!

Scary!! When your previous post said that you had been robbed, it took me three reads to figure out that you had been ROBBED! (I was thinking like robbed in the sense that someone is robbed of winning a game.) Hope you can replace your stuff without too much hassle, will your car or renters insurance cover anything?

This is the saddest. So glad about your comp and your book, though!

This song is exactly for you:

WOW. Can you believe that there are people who actually DO stuff like that?
When my mom died we had to have someone from the ward sit outside my parents' house to make sure no one robbed it - apparently there are equally-as-awesome people who look through obituaries and prey on the family while they attend the funeral. Lame, right!?
I'm glad that even though you lost some really awesome stuff, you still have a positive attitude. You go, girl.

wow... i think the best part is that they didn't take your car. i mean, really? if they were going to steal, why didn't they go all out? i hope you get everything back without too much of a hassle!

1. Holy crap, I love your new header.
2. This is the most terrible thing I have heard.
3. I am sooooo glad that you didn't loose your words.
4. Please sign up for online backup for your book. Two places (your comp and your flash drive) are not enough. I use Backblaze.

I so relate to your story; last year someone broke into our appartment and into the studio, while we were sleeping in the back. They did steal erverything, from our notebooks, papers, to a custom made bike. They had make contracts with our ID's, the bank booked thousands of Euro for their bills from our account, whatever you can think of, it happened. We were devastated in the beginning, but something deep inside kept telling:"Annton, don't let it spoil your life. Just don't!" After I had decided to keep on smiling, many amazing things came out of this. For example neighbors bringing flowers, collecting money or simply baking a cake; we've received so much love and support, in the end I felt almost pity with those burglars, as all the good stuff just made me stronger and very proud.

lamey mclame. i wish that some of the righteous anger i feel could help you out, but other than letting you know i'm on your side, i don't think it does much good.

My heart hurts for you right now. I'm so, so, so sorry. My car was broken into during stake conference last year - everything was stolen. Such a nightmare. Hope you are able to get everything resolved quickly!

Aww this sucks. It always feels so personal when something is stolen from you! I can't believe that happened at church! I seriously can't believe people!

My car was stolen, and like you, I definitely had to learn to count my blessings for what was NOT in the car at the time. I am glad your book was not stolen :) But I hope you get all the social security and credit card stuff cleared up quickly! What an unlucky set back :( I am so sorry.

I have to tell you how much your comment made me smile today. I wouldn't say I'm getting cold feet (no, that's too extreme) but today I started freaking out. Like seriously freaking out about getting married and being young! Your comment made me remember how excited I should be and how fun it will be to be married! Thank you so so so much, it seriously made my day!

Oh my goodness this is AWFUL!

I have had my purse stolen once, and once lost my wallet on the street never to be found again. Its horrible and awful and its hard, make that impossible, to get ID without ID..

I wish you lots of luck, and know in the end they must have needed it more than you :( hard to believe I know
