misunderstanding

This morning, I logged onto my site tracker. It showed a few hits coming from a particular website I'd never seen before so I clicked over. I soon had this sinking feeling that this wasn't going to be good. But I kept clicking and eventually found the source of where the visits to my blog were coming from.

I should have listened to myself.
I shouldn't have read it.

I had heard of people being hateful towards blogs/bloggers but hadn't experience it for myself.

Now I've experienced it.

I actually found myself really questioning this blog for the first time and what it's all about.
So, in an effort to remind myself, I feel like I need to get some thoughts down to help me process and get past the ugliness.

...

I've had a blog for years now.
When I was married to my first husband, I had a blog.
When I was going through my divorce and single again, I had a blog.
Now I have this blog.

Blogging has been a positive experience for me in many, many ways.
I've written more about the reasons why I blog here

One thing that I've always tried to uphold in my blogging is honesty.
So when I write about how wonderfully happy my life is with my husband, that's because it's the truth. That's not to say that things are perfect. Only that things are very happy. After going through a horrible divorce, happiness in a marriage is something that I firmly believe should be honored and celebrated. That's what I've been doing from Day 1 on this blog. Writing posts about enjoying a happy, healthy marriage helps me to focus on gratitude and appreciation. I never want to take my marriage or Chas' goodness for granted.

Along with the love and silliness that goes on around here, I also feel like it's important for me to write about ways I'm striving to become a better human.

Getting divorced taught me important lessons.
Earning a Master's degree taught me important lessons.
Being an art therapist teaches me important lessons.
Being a college professor teaches me important lessons.
Trying to be a good partner in marriage teaches me important lessons.

I write about these things because it helps to solidify those lessons in my mind and heart.

And the Young People Style posts?
I'm the first person to make fun of us for doing those. They are pretty crazy and super cheesy.
But they're also pretty fun to do together.
We're weird.
So whatever.

...I was going to write more but I think I'll wrap up here.

I guess at the end of the day, it doesn't matter what other people think.
I didn't start this blog for other people.

We all learn from experience.
If you haven't experienced something, I can see how it'd be easy to misunderstand someone with a different life experience and paradigm.
So I don't need to fault others for misunderstanding me, my blog, or my marriage.
I can let others hold their own opinions whether those opinions are positive, negative, or somewhere in between.

Those opinions don't have to affect me unless I chose to let them.
And I'm not going to do that.

First, I'm sorry that you've experienced blog-world negativity and (dare I say it?) drama. :( There's nothing worse than wearing your heart on your sleeve, opening up about your family, and then discovering that someone has bashed it or spoken detrimentally about it. I've been there and it's TOUGH.

I just want you to know what an encouragement your blog is. The fun, the serious, the silly, the "weird" ... I love it all. People who take the time to criticize others are either jealous, unhappy, or don't have anything useful to do with their time.

So, try not to let it bother you. :) There are FAR more people that love you, your blog, and your awesomeness than there are people who don't. And we're the ones who matter. ;) *hugs*

We get rude anonymous comments on our site all the time.I've learned to just pity the people who have so much pent up negativity in their lives that they have to write mean things about people on the internet just because they can. Keep doing what you're doing, and let the haters hate!

I think you're incredible for taking the hard things you've been through/done and learning from them. You keep going, girl! I love that your blog is to rejoice in the joy of your marriage--I think that's something those of us with good marriages should always do, so that we don't take it for granted! thanks for the example!

Hi Sam. I must say that you continue to inspire me because of your blog. And while there are people who don't like what you do here, always remember that there are people who get inspired because of you and your lovely blog. Count me in! ;-)

Take care, Sam! And don't let the negativity get to you. :-)

man I'm sorry! I know you'll hear a million times not to care what people think. If you can do that, good for you! But I personally have a hard tim with that! I hope you're doing better than I would! I don't let myself look at site traffic because of that. I don't want to expose myself to it. Really, there's no point. It won't change what I write. Lately I've been getting the most awful anti mormon comments. I've never responded or aknowledged them. But it has gotten so out of hand that I set my comments to be approved before the show up on my site. I don't want my readers to see such disgusting things. It's sad that I have to monitor it now. Just know that there might be a handful of people who disagree with you or don't like your blog, but there are so many more who love it and who you are helping. that's so much more important :)

Gentri said...

You can see from your followers list and all the sweet comments you get that people LOVE you! The haters can hate, they're not important. Those who care about you (and there are a lot of us) are the important ones. :) It doesn't matter what people think. And I love the style posts!

I love taking five minutes to read your blog and will admit I first heard about your site from said particular website. At first glance, your day -to-day life could not be more different than mine BUT that's why I love reading your blog.

Thank you for being honest about your intentions in why you blog and your previous relationship ending. I've never left your site thinking life sucks; I always leave thinking a positive thought and in turn become a better daughter, girlfriend, sister, aunt, human being, etc.

Don't pay them any attention.

As someone who's had her blog ripped to shreds on some very unsavory sites that are antagonistic to our faith, I totally know how you feel. Why do people feel the need to tear others down? It's not like we post things looking for criticism. No, I don't mind a healthy debate once in a while, but coming on my blog to tell me my beliefs are "disgusting" and "crass?" It's very hurtful. My faith is anything but that.

Sam, you deserve to be happy. And no one can tell you otherwise.

It sucks that ONE little negative comment can wash out the thousands of amazing ones. SAM,YOU are amazing and so many people love this blog! Don't let one little hater ruin this whole experience!! No matter how amazing one person is... No matter how great they are... There will always be ONE person that doesn't like them. Not everyone can be loved by everyone. It's just life. Think of all the amazing people in history... who were hated for the good things they did. Same thing. Don't let it get you down! We love you so much! You are strong! I LOVE YOU.

I hope you're not talking about the article I think you're talking about, because it broke MY heart when I read it and it's not even aimed at me.

I have a blog. It is way too serious and often pretentious. I'm working on that. But I don't expect anyone to read it and I need to get things out sometimes, so I don't care. But YOUR blog is my happy place. And I've never once thought that you were being insincere or trying to create an idea of your life that isn't true. When I read about how happy you are with your husband, I look at my husband and smile because ME TOO. When you do style posts, and smile and wonder if I could be more creative with my own closet. So keep doing what you do. If possible, make it even MORE lovey dovey and occasionally goofy :)

Kylie said...

I haven't had any hate so far, but maybe that's because my blog isn't as popular as yours.

I know this world can be a cruel, ugly place. But I hope you know that your life, and your blog, bring a little bit of beauty and happiness to fight away the ugliness.

One of my favorite quotes is by Dr. Seuss: "Be who you are and say what you feel, because those who mind don't matter, and those who matter don't mind."

Hope you have a better day!

Ok, first of all...you are lovely. I love your blog and always have. Second, I think this world needs a little light and happiness. Focusing on the good things in life is what life is all about in my opinion. I'm sorry this even came up because I can honestly see the joy and appreciation you have from being in your marriage to Chas. You've gone through so many things that have taught you so much. In a way, we're never going to be able to fully describe our lives and experiences and people will always misunderstand what we mean.

I know you are strong enough to forget those other comments made about you that were negative, but I just want you to remember that you do have readers who see this brightness in you. A real brightness because you try every single day to make living this life worth it. You aren't fake or super duper happy 24/7. You're a real person who wants to be live for herself and her family and you do that by being a good person and living your life and blogging about it. If people can't see that then they don't deserve your attention at all.

beady said...

I can not understand why some people waste so much time and energy on being rude to others and trying to tear them down. Anyways, for one hater you have a literal thousand other people that love your blog and embrace and enjoy the silliness.

Jessica said...

You include those Young People Style posts because YOU enjoy doing them and sharing them with others. It doesn't make you weird to have an interest in fashion and taking fun photos. You look like you're having fun and you look happy and it's artsy, which is an ASSET. There is nothing wrong with that. And no, it does NOT matter what other people think.

I might talk about myself and my life experiences on my own blog, but it's mainly for myself; it's kind of like a journal, but one that I don't mind other people getting into.

If someone doesn't like it, they don't have to read it. If they want to talk badly about it, they're only hurting themselves and holding onto negative energy in their spirit.

Keep blogging doll and do it for yourself :)

Hey love, My blog is similar to yours, except less cool..;) But, I was recently at mcdonalds the other day and received an anonymous blog comment. It said how they saw us at mcdonalds and realized that my life was not as perfect as we made it seem on the blog..ect.
It ruined my whole weekend, besides the fact that it was a little creepy, it really just made me think about my blog & myself and my husband. How can someone judge from 5 minutes?

People just don't know.

Marriage is hard.
but marriage is perfect.
not the perfect that means dishes are always done, the house is always clean, there's dinner on the table every night..it means that you care enough to correct arguments, support each other in things you could never do & understand perspectives.
Y
ou are awesome Sam, and I love your blog.

You cannot imagine with what anticipation I look forward to the post announcing that a little cryings is coming into the world, I literally hope for it every time I type in the address. Being silly is what we all should do from time to time. And being in love is something that should be celebrated! Someone who may misunderstand you just obviously doesn't see the beauty you are sharing.

I know I'm a little late on this, but I wanted to tell you guys how much you really mean to me. I'm a relatively new reader, but as a young person in love, I find your words and advice on marriage very helpful and inspiring.

I am getting married next year, but Eli and I have been engaged for nearly 2 years now, and we face challenges in our relationship all the time like any other couple that's been married for 10+ years. And sometimes I get frustrated with him and don't know what to do. And you know what helps then? Reading about you guys! Reading about the work your put in to be happy together and the joy with which you celebrate your love every day. It really means so much to me.
So for what it's worth, I am incredibly thankful for you being there. I am very grateful for your blog, and your kind willingness to share your life with us.

Love,

PS. And a side note the the commenter above me - I'm so excited that you spell your name L-E-X-I-E! Everyone always leaves off the "E" and it drives me nuts! No one spells Lexie like that :)

You know people who leave rude comments on blogs obviously have to READ the blog to comment on it. And most of those rude commenters are regular readers/commenters. So that must say SOMETHING about your blog. Even if it's "silly" to some people, apparently it's also entertaining. ;) Keep up the awesome work.

Unknown said...

Obviously I am totally late on commenting but I read it when you posted and still wanted to say a little something when I had a moment!

I LOVE that you post about how happy you and Chas are. I know it's true too. You can't make up stuff like that! and because I see similarities in the way I feel about my husband and the silly things we do together. Even our closest friends laugh and say we are so weird the way we act when we are together, and even sometimes we tell each other that the other is SO weird! but weird works for us. and we love it. and I love that you love Chas and that he loves you and that you KNOW that what you have is love and that it is something to be grateful for.
So glad you were level-headed enough to sit back and see that the person who said mean things about you doesn't matter. Like you said, you didn't write this blog for them. You are doing it for you, and it makes you happy, which is what counts. I hope you never stop doing what makes you happy, even if that changes over time. Even if eventually writing a blog doesn't make you happy like it used to and instead you knit or modgepodge everything in your house or make homemade popsicles and give them away all summer every summer. Whatever it is. Do it. and Be happy! Life is to be enjoyed not endured. And you are beautiful and important and deserve every happiness in the world. :)

So I'm kind of the worst at commenting on blogs I love sometimes cause I always read them on my phone where commenting is hard, BUT I wanted you to know I keep thinking about how gracefully you handled a bummer of a situatuon that probably makes your insides churn to thunk about (mine would). I really loved that you were positive and proactive instead if critical. Thanks for being true to yourself and may no more bad find it's way to you!

i think you're amazing and i like your blog because of how genuine i feel like you are. that's one of the reasons i follow/sponsor.
bottom line is, haters are going to hate. they always will. but by writing posts like this you prove that its okay for them to hate as long as you love yourself.

okay. enough with the pep-talk. have a great weekend.

i just want to share my experience and testimony here.. i was married for 4 years to my husband and all of a sudden, another woman came into the picture.. he started hailing me and he was abusive..but i still loved him with all my heart and wanted him at all cost…then he filed for divorce..my whole life was turning apart and i didn't know what to do..he moved out of the house and abandoned the kids.. so someone told me about trying spiritual means to get my husband back and introduced me to a spell caster…so i decided to try it reluctantly..although i didn't believe in all those things… then when he did the special prayers and spell, after 2days, my husband came back and was pleading..he had realized his mistakes..i just couldn't believe it.. anyways we are back together now and we are happy..in case anyone needs this man, his email address olotospellhome@yahoo.com his spells is for a better life. again his email is olotospellhome@yahoo.com

My name is sarah dixon, am from Dublin. i want to use this opportunity to thank my great doctor who really made my life a pleasurable one today. This great man DR.OLUWAKEMI brought my husband back to me, i had 2 lovely kids for my husband, about 3 years ago i and my husband has been into one quarrel or the other until he finally left me for one lady. i felt my life was over and my kids thought they would never see their father again. i tried to be strong just for the kids but i could not control the pains that torments my heart, my heart was filled with sorrows and pains because i was really in love with my husband. Every day and night i think of him and always wish he would come back to me, until one day i met a good friend of mine that was also in a situation like me but her problem was her ex-boyfriend who she had an unwanted pregnancy for and he refused to take responsibility and dumped her. she told me that mine was a small case and that i shouldn't worry about it at all so i asked her what was the solution to my problems and she gave me this great man phone number and his email address. i was doubting if this man was the solution, so contacted this great man and he told me what to do and i deed them all, he told me to wait for just two day and that my husband will come crawling on his kneels just for forgiveness so i faithfully deed what this great man asked me to do and for sure after two days i heard a knock on the door, in a great surprise i saw him on his kneels and i was speechless, when he saw me, all he did was crying and asking me for forgiveness, from that day, all the pains and sorrows in my heart flew away, since then i and my husband and our lovely kids are happy.that's why i want to say a big thank you to oluwakemiprosperityspell@live.com This great man made me to understand that there no problem on earth that has no solution so please if you know that you have this same problem or any problem that is similar, i will advise you to come straight to this great man. you can email him at:oluwakemiprosperityspell@live.com or call him +2348103508204

My name is Gary. I do not know how to thank GREAT OGUDUGU for bringing happiness back to my family. I do really wanna tell the whole world that there is a spell caster called Dr. OGUDUGU that is so real and genuine. I never believed in any of these things but when i lose my wife for 4 years, i required help until i found a great spell caster, and he assured me that i will get my wife back in just 48hours but i was in doubt, and after the spell has been cast, 48hours later, just as the spell caster said, my phone rang, and surprisingly it was my wife who has not called me for the past 4 years, and she made an apology for the pain she has caused me and she told me that she is ready to come back home for me. Dr. OGUDUGU really made her know how much i loved and needed her. And he also opened her eyes to picture how much love we have to share together. I will keep sharing this testimony all over the world. All thanks goes to Dr. OGUDUGU for the good work that he has done for me. Contact him now because he is very powerful and he will always help you. Believe him and do all he ask you to do and never doubt him in any way. GREATOGUDUGU@GMAIL.COM

I am Jasmine Jennifer i have used every single spell worker on the internet, spent untold amounts of money and discovered they are all fakes...i was the fool though; doing the same thing over and over again and expecting different results. In the end, I decided that I wanted a tarot reading to know what my future held for me; I contacted a woman who lives locally to me and she told me about a man named (dr odalo); he does not advertise on the internet, has another job for income, has no set prices, makes no false promises and refuses to help anyone that cannot be helped and even helps for free sometimes, he will give you proof before taking money. He is a wonderful man and he was the only person who actually gave me real results. I really hope he doesn't mind me advertising his contact on the internet but I'm sure any help/ extra work will benefit him.whatsapp or call him on+2348063930531 or odalospelltemple@gmail.com He travel sometimes.he is also specialise on ,love marriage, finance, job promotion ,lottery spell, ,Law & Court case Spells, money voodoo, weigh loss voodoo, any sicknesses voodoo,Trouble in marriage,HIV AIDS,it's all he does Hope this helps everyone that is in a desperate situation as I once was; I know how it feels to hold onto something and never have a chance to move on because of the false promises and then to feel trapped in wanting something

Have you just experience the wonders of Dr aluda that have been spread on the internet and worldwide on how he marvelously helped people all over world to restored back their marriage and get back lost lovers, and also helping people get job and money spell. It was one beautiful day, when i contacted him after going through his testimonies from different countries. I told him about how my husband abandoned me
about 8 months ago, and left home with all i had. Dr aluda only told me to be happy, and have a rest of mind, that he will handle all in just 48 hours. He requested for my picture and that of my ex husband, and also told me to get some items which i
did send all he need to him. After the second day,
Stevens called me, i was just so shocked, i answered the call, and couldn't believe my ears, he was really pleading and begging me to forgive him
and making promises on phone. He came home and i let him in and also took me to his bank and change all his details to mine and also got me a new car just for him to proof his love for me. So i met with this spell caster called Dr aluda on the internet after a long search. And he told me everything that i needed to do, and he also assured me that he is going to reunite us in just 48 hours later after his spell casting. So he started his work on Monday 27th January . there is this great spell caster in the states i just met through a friends description, and he have just helped me to get back my husband who left me for 2 years, I am so glad that i met with this spell caster, he is just in the US to help people and i am among those he have helped and i am telling you to also go and get hold of your own solution as he shall soon be living the the States, he said he was in the STATES to help his client. So i met with him and told him about how my husband left me.
I visited his email address, after a friend talked about how she got help from him. After contacting him, then I found out he is currently in the US.
It is even because his spell is so strong that is why someone invited him over, And through this medium he has brought home my husband with this spell powers. I contacted him, not up to 2 days, he told me that after 24 hours my husband would return back to me, and that day I was at work when my husband (Collins Mark toddle) called and said he is in the house, and i was so surprise when i really saw him and he just ask me to forgive him so that was how Dr aluda helped me to get my husband back to me so his email address is aludaspelltemple@gmail.com or call and whatsapp him on +2348063930531 if you still want him to help you solve your problems for you
