Just a few things I'm thinking about lately...
The last four days have been pretty rough. I had to cancel my class on Saturday and didn't leave the house at all yesterday. My morning sickness is the grossest nausea. The kind where you're just praying you'll throw up so maybe your tummy will stop burning and that sick lump in your throat will subside. Bleeeeeh!
The whole thing can make me rather grumpy.
But Chas always takes care of me so well. Especially when I'm grumpy.
Thank goodness for my Chas.

We have another ultrasound appointment on Friday.
Can't wait to see our little lime!

Because we both do contract work (starving artists), we don't have health insurance.
We recently met with our hospital's financial aid counselor and were told we don't qualify for their assistance.
We don't qualify for Medicaid, either.
Looks like we're going to be paying for little cryings all by ourselves.
And we both feel surprisingly peaceful and calm about it.
No panic. No anxiety.
I just love when Heavenly Father blesses us with peace and I'm brave enough to accept that peace and choose not to worry. It's a lovely thing.

We'll be spending this Christmas at my family's cabin. So excited.
I had the idea for everyone to make something homemade for family presents.
But then I remembered I'm not good at homemade.
Any ideas on a gift I could put together for my 24 year-old little sister?

I really need to dye my hair.
Really.
I'm thinking dark, chocolate brown.

Aw, I'm so sorry you haven't been feeling better! I hope the morning sickness phase ends soon for you.
I need to dye my hair as well. I inherited my dad's genes, and started getting grays at 23... thanks DAD!:)
Sorry you are so sick, I hope it subsides soon.
What is you made a fun scarf, or ear warmer?
Make homemade hot chocolate powder, buy a mug and a ceramic pen, draw a design on the mug, bake it to seal the paint, and then pass on the yummy gift?
That's a bummer that you can't get health insurance! We ALMOST delivered without pain meds (i gave in at 8.5cm...) and it really was fantastic. I'd recommend a birthing center, where your entire pregnancy is a flat fee of around 3k. But it's cool if you want to do the hospital route too (we did)...it's just more expensive. I'd just recommend doing good research and looking at someone else's hospital bill and really scrutinizing closely so you don't get charged for things you don't expect! (Like tylenol. Just bring your own and don't tell.)
just in case you havent been to starbucks lately they have a mug with a scooter on it! I thought of you when I saw it there this morning!
Im sorry about the morning sickness! Its the worst... but as time goes by, it only gets better. Trust me! And in the mean time, drink Gingerale.
Im sorry about your medical situation. I will pray for you!
you're a babe. so sorry to hear you're so sick. please, please, please let me know if you need anything. like cookies? or a smoothie? or gummy bears? i'm sure i've got more insurance ideas, let me think about it and get back to you. xoxxx
I think the color your hair is now is awesome. And I'm sorry you are sick, but it's awesome that you are calm about the insurance stuff.
I never got a chance to tell you congratulations on the expected little one! Wahoo!
Oh, and not that my opinion really matters, but I love your red hair. I often wish for red hair, but my stylist says no. I guess I can't pull it off.
For your 24-year-old sister? There's a lot of amazing stuff at the new H&M and Crate&Barrel at Fashion Place. I love it when my cooking-savvy sisters give me cook books and kitchen supplies. I've also been a huge fan of receiving magazine subscriptions as gifts, but I'm weird.
Wow, long comment.
Feel better! :)
Will definitely be keeping you guys in my prayers. And that color sounds amazing! DO IT!

Since your beautiful self is preggo, you better do an all-natural hair color! But I'm sure you already knew that, sweets.

I don't know how old you are, but if you happen to be under 26, you can check and see if your parents' insurance could cover you--my husband and I are in a similar situation (don't qualify for medicare, can't afford health insurance on our own) but my parents' insurance will cover me! It won't cover the baby so we have to get creative to cover the baby (we're looking into Utah's CHIP program for kids) but it's been a blessing to be able to be on their insurance for this! Just something to think about if it applies to you! Either way, good luck--you can definitely make it work! And congrats again on your little cryings!
Good luck! I can't wait to see you as a mother. xo, rv

It's no fun being sick but it's so nice to have a loving hubby to take care of you during it. :)
a friend of mine who was struggling with pretty bad morning sickness said her doctor gave her a magic recipe that is saving her life as far as morning sickness:
Twice a day:
1/2 of a unisom sleeping aid pill
1 B6 vitamin supplement
1 Ginger Root vitamin supplement
and someone else commented about that and added this:
There are two types of unisom. It has to be the Doxylamine Succinate.
Check into what Catherine mentioned! It's the same for me and my husband. Neither of us have insurance through our jobs because we aren't full time but because of the Obama Care that was passed last year we are covered under our parents' insurance til we are 26. It covers the pregnancy but not the baby afterward.
Good Luck! I know you will be blessed and Heavenly Father will provide a way for you to do what you were meant to do!
P.S. Have to say I LOVE this picture. Your hair is gorgeous and the colors are beautiful!
Sorry to hear about the insurance, that totally sucks. But I have to say I really admire your positive outlook, as always. <3
Also in response to the hair dyeing comments - dyeing your hair during pregnancy is considered safe, but most doctors and such will tell you to wait until the 2nd or 3rd trimester. My sister's a cosmetologist :)
Oh no about the insurance! Maybe you could look into a birthing center. I know there are lots of nice ones in Salt Lake area. You won't be able to get an epidural ... I don't know how you feel about that! But anyway, just a thought. My sister-in-law had her 3rd baby at a birthing center in Orem and only paid $2600. That's close to what I paid for my C-section WITH insurance!
Good luck, Sam. Hope the yuckies go away. I hate that part.
I think you should keep your hair red...it is gorg! Anyway, sorry about the morning sickness...but trust me, the second and third trimesters are much better! Congrats on your pregnancy! :)
hey lovely..do you not get healthcare through whatever university you teach at? I thought profs got pretty decent medical benefits? sometimes the healthcare system out there frustrates me.
you're so pretty already, but let's get our hair done together haha i've been begging nick to get mine done again. i'm so sorry about the morning sickness, if you need anything please let me know!
Aww I'm sorry you have mornings sickness. I hope you feel much better very soon so you can thoroughly enjoy this pregnancy.
I admire you for being peaceful and calm about the insurance disaster. When I had my first two pregnancies (miscarriages) we didn't have insurance either. It was hard. Very hard. But you know what? We survived and the good Lord took care of us all the way. I hope to have as much faith you when it's time for us to try again.
As for Christmas, I don't even know what I'm going to do yet. LoL If I think of something brilliant, I'll share it with you. :)
aw i hope you feel better soonest!
Have you considered a midwife? They are so much cheaper than using a doctor and hospital and most are extremely experienced and knowledgeable. Many operate out of Birth Centers or you can choose a home birth. That is the option we'll be going with for our next one because our health insurance doesn't not cover maternity.
So excited to follow your guys' journey with the little one!!
I really hope you feel better soon!
Boooooo! I bet morning sickness really isn't fun in the slightest, but hey it will be worth it in the end when you have that little bundle of joy, hope you feel better soon though x
Morning sickness is the worst! Mine seems to have just passed. And I have my appointment for my little lemon tomorrow! It's all so exciting. :)
How come you guys don't get your own insurance plan? I'm honestly curious because we're really wanting to start our own little family but won't be getting insurance through my husbands job for another year (don't want to wait that long...it just feels right, now. You know?) and we won't qualify for assistance or medicaid. We are just trying to figure out if its better for us to get our own insurance plan or just go into it with faith that our baby and delivery will be normal with no extra costs.
I love when heavenly father calms us about something we know would normally stress us out :) it's His way of saying he's mindful of you! I hope everything goes well for you two! You will make excellent parents!
I would LOVE to see your hair chocolate brown! And the whole no insurance thing is scary but Heavenly Father is amazing! How wonderful that he could bless you with peace! :] I hope your morning sickness passes soon! You and Chas and your sweet little cryings will be in my prayers!
Hope you feel better soon, lady! I can only imagine how much it sucks to be sick all the time. I'm glad that you and Chas are so calm about everything - so much better for baby.
You are good at homemade... you paint! I'm sure you sis would love one of your paintings/prints.
I'm sorry to hear about the insurance. Honestly, that is the ONLY reason why I am not pregnant right now myself. I think it's amazing you are so calm. Money is only money. Your child is so much more! If I could convince the fiance, we would be trying now. But, he refuses until we have insurance. boo. Everything has a reason and life always works out in the end.
Hope you feel better soon! And, I love your hair now! I think the color is perfect!

It does my heart so much good to hear that you're feeling the peace and provision of God in spite of it all!
Keeping you both (and baby) in my prayers. :)
As for a gift idea...blick.com has indigo dye kits where you can make a scarf (or other things!. It is kind of like tie dye, but I just love the look of the blue:-) and who doesn't love scarfs?
boo for morning sickness:-( gingerale and saltines? Also, check the iron in your prenatals!
I think you would rock dark brown hair- but I LOOOOVE your color now! Is it natural?
Sorry you're feeling so sick girlie..I pray that the morning sickness eases up a bit this week! How exciting about the ultrasound. Your attitude and trust in God about the health insurance is beautiful darling. God always provides. :)
the sickness will pass, but you know that already, and the good things will stay. only something, if you don't mind me saying; unless it is not Henna based, no hair dying for the next months. not healthy for little cryings. love from berlin.
I really have to suggest getting private insurance. It can be expensive but you need medical care during the pregnancy even if you do decide to use a birthing center for the actual birth. And you'll definitely have to get it when the baby's born, kids need health insurance since they're always at the doctor. I'd suggest an HMO, we had one when I was growing up and while it is very managed care, you have a lot lower costs because of the limitations of who you can see. Kids need so many vaccines and check ups and they get sick or hurt a lot, I really can't stress it more how important it is to get insurance.
dark brown would look great on you! and blechh, i hope you feel better soon. nobody like throwing up. it will be totoally worth it though, so just you wait :)
Super cute blog=)Love it..

so sorry to hear you've got miserable morning sickness. It is the worst! I'm almost 15 weeks now and my morning sickness (which was actually all-day sickness with so much vomiting I eventually had to take medication, and even then I had the nausea and aversions and horrible barfy feeling all day!) JUST started to subside. So you will get to the other side of it, I bet you'll start feeling better soon! Hang in there... just eat whatever sounds ok to you or doesn't make you want to vomit. :)
