about this blog

lately, i've been wondering about this blog. what to do with it. what direction i want to take it in, if any. what role it should play in this new mommy life of mine. i worry that the only thing i post about now is my baby. i wonder if it's becoming annoying and tiresome to my readers. i wonder why i allow myself to let others' perceived expectations for this blog drive its content.

sometimes i want to write a farewell post and shut the whole thing down. i really do. i feel like it would be freeing in a lot of ways.

but i've also invested so much into this blog, over the years. to walk away from all this would be difficult and i don't want to do something that i'd regret down the road.

no regrets. as tim riggins would say.

so then i start thinking about, when everything is stripped away, what i want this blog to be all about. what i want it's core purpose to be.

there are a lot of blogs out there that feel like flipping through a magazine. plenty of pretty pictures, great style, and beautiful people. those blogs are just fine and fun in their own way. i, for one, am grateful for those blogs because they sometimes help me know how to dress myself when i'm feeling particularly dumb when it comes to glam and fashion.

but those blogs aren't me. and "young people in love" will never be one of those blogs.

so i think about what it is that i do have to offer with this blog.
and i keep coming back to honesty and connection.

sure i want my blog to look nice and heck, even have some pretty pictures every now and then but, when all is said and done, i want this blog to be an honest telling of my life and my thoughts. no hiding, no sugar-coating, and no watering-down of things like love and happiness.

if i can do that, i hope my readers will be able to feel a sense of connection, validation, and hope through what i share on this blog.

so thanks for listening.

Thank YOU for writing and being honest. When I went through a break up around 6 months ago, I found your blog. I read about your past, and about how you found love. And it encouraged me. It gave me hope. So I will always be appreciative of your honesty. For you telling the story of your life, the ups and the downs. I, for one, would love to see tons and tons of posts of your adorable baby. So keep the mommy posts comin :)

The only reason I ever started blogging was for myself. I wanted to be real. I wanted something simple and straight forward. I enjoy blogs that share fashion or random tips but the best posts are the ones like this one. The kind of post that remind me that these blogs I fall in love with are from people who are real and going through the same life struggles as everyone else.

I love your honesty on your blog. That's why I keep reading. :)

I read it too for the honesty (and the fact that you and Chas are just so great together). If Hero is where you're at, go write about Hero. (Besides, she's what, a month, maybe two old? You're allowed to write a lot about newborn babies, especially the first time). We love you, in a non-weird, non-stalking type of way ;-)

I agree that those picture filled blogs are fun and entertaining, but just like life needs variety, blogs need variety. I find it refreshing to read your "meaty", thought provoking, life experience type posts. Just keep doing what your doing and don't worry about what others want :-)

Sam, you have a beautiful little girl. Absolutely beautiful. It melts my heart seeing her. I may not be a mom yet, and there are many motherhood blogs I do not read because I can't relate, but since I've been following you since before you were pregnant, it's nice. (don't get me wrong, I know we're not real life friends.) but i do follow a few "motherhood" blogs, and yours is one. Mainly because I've always been drawn to your honesty and your spirit. You and your husband are talented and have a lot to offer this world and it reflects in your blog. I will continue to read regardless of how you feel inspired to carry on with this. Either way, congratulations on the absolutely beautiful and adorable little girl !!! Xo, Amy

The old cliche, write about what you know comes to mind. I really appreciate your honesty and sentiments too. If you lose some readers, I'm sure you'll gain more. As you know, this blog is a real self-reflection and it's wonderful to hear someone's individual experience. Thank you for your continued efforts. Do what is in your heart. A blog isn't something you should feel obliged to do; write it because you love it. All the best for a lovely summer week.

I love the blog and your introspection, be it about love, babies, motherhood, career, etc. It's natural that blogs evolve as our lives do, and that's okay. I'll read it no matter what you write about because it's your tone, personality, and willingness to delve into your honest fears and joys that make it enriching to read.

Haha! I love the Tim Riggins reference, my husband and I just finished watching all 5 seasons of Friday Night Lights. Although I'm not a mom yet, I've really enjoyed your honest posts about being a new mother. It makes being a mom more realistic, it doesn't sound whiny or complain-y at all, it's extremely raw and honest. I really appreciate your writing :)

I love your blog because of how open and honest you always are. I have some of your most recent posts tagged to read after I have my baby and don't know/understand what's going on. I am glad you are keeping your blog up and I will always come and read it! :) Thank you for your honesty and inspiration!

Agreed 100%. There will always be people who like and don't like your posts, no matter what you write about. So you just have to write about what YOU want and what you feel good about standing by. Blogs are one area where I think it's okay to be selfish. I feel like you can tell when you come across a blog and they're just trying to apease readers. It's not substantial. You're doing great! :)

I love reading your blog. I really hope that you continue to write about your life, I love sharing with my fiance and adore your posts about baby. I hope you keep this blog up--its nice when there are true-to-life bloggers out there. We'd all love to be those glossy fashionista-I-bought-this-fabulous-couture-outfit-from-goodwill-for-50-cents! bloggers, but I'd rather read yours any day!
